Air freight is a strong link in international supply chains. Freight forwarders are also central players here. 

Demand for air freight services is growing worldwide, and at the same time the qualitative and logistical requirements as well as the security demands on air freight as a product are increasing. 

Although only a very small proportion of total modal transport volume is carried by air freight, it accounts for around 30 percent of the value of German foreign trade.

International destinations in particular handle time-critical goods such as medical products, perishables and spare parts, as well as high-value capital and consumer goods and semi-finished and finished products. Freight forwarders handle 98 percent of export-side air freight and 80 percent of goods imported via German airports. The logistics services of air freight forwarding are increasingly being integrated into the global procurement.
